Privacy policy

Sipworthy has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. Your journal stays on your device. The only thing it shares is the ratings that make up the public rankings, anonymously, and you can turn that off.

What stays on your device

Everything you enter — coffees and ratings, cafés, roasters, beans and bags, brew recipes, tasting notes, prices and photos — is stored on your device. If you turn on iCloud Sync, your journal is kept in step across your devices in your own private iCloud database, which the developer cannot see.

What is shared to the rankings

Sharing is on unless you turn it off, and the app tells you before it shares anything. When a café coffee or a bag of beans is rated, the app sends:

  • the star rating,
  • the drink, for a café coffee,
  • the tasting notes you picked from Sipworthy's list,
  • the café or roaster as an Apple Maps place, and the coffee's name, origin and process,
  • the month — never the day or time,
  • a random identifier created by the app, so your ratings can be updated or removed. It is not linked to your name, Apple Account, email or device.

Your notes, photos, prices, brew recipes, home brews and exact dates are never shared. Only places in Australia are shared. Requests are checked with Apple's App Attest to confirm they come from the genuine app; App Attest tells us nothing about you.

Ratings are shown on this site only as totals — averages, counts and the most mentioned drinks and tasting notes. No individual rating is shown or can be traced to a person.

Turning sharing off and removing ratings

Turn off sharing in Settings in the app, and everything you have shared is deleted. Deleting a coffee in the app deletes its shared rating. Remove my ratings deletes all of them and the random identifier. Removal is permanent.

Where shared ratings are kept

Shared ratings are stored in a database hosted in Australia or the United States by our hosting providers, Vercel and our database provider, who process them only to run this site. They are kept for as long as they are shared.

This website

The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. Our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security, for a short time.

Location and the camera

Sipworthy never asks for your location. Cafés are chosen by searching Apple Maps, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy. The camera photographs coffees and reads bag labels on your device; images are never uploaded.

Purchases

Sipworthy Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment, and Sipworthy never sees your payment details.

Children

Sipworthy is not directed at children and shares nothing that identifies anyone.
